A ductless mini-split moves heat without ductwork.

A mini-split can solve rooms the central ducts cannot reach, but it still needs correct sizing, placement, drainage, line-set routing, and controls.

Outdoor condenser

The outdoor unit moves heat in or out through the refrigerant circuit. Nearly every mini-split is inverter-driven by design — the compressor ramps up and down to match the room instead of switching on and off, which is a big part of why they hold temperature so steadily.

Line set and drain

Refrigerant lines, wiring, and condensate drainage have to be planned cleanly.

Ductless is useful, but it is not a patch for every duct or load problem. Placement and sizing decide whether the room feels comfortable.

What a home review checks

The room load, wall location, line-set route, drainage, electrical path, and how it will work with the central system all need to be checked.

How ductless actually affects comfort

A ductless head conditions the room it serves directly, so it can help additions, bonus rooms, offices, sunrooms, and upper rooms that central ducts cannot satisfy.

Because there is no ductwork, airflow is local. Door position, room shape, and head placement matter more than homeowners expect.

The best ductless design explains whether the unit is supplemental, primary for that room, or part of a larger multi-zone plan.
